Creating your first project and adding tasks

Learn the Chik way to organize your freelance workflow. Discover how to use simple tasks and subtasks to build clutter-free projects, share them with clients, and stay notified.

Welcome to the intentionally simplified Chik workflow! To avoid the overwhelming complexity of other apps, Chik doesn’t use bulky, separate "Project" folders. Instead, we keep things clean and simple: You organize your work using Tasks and Subtasks in a standard List view.

Here is how to set up your first project.

1. Create your "Project" (The Parent Task)

Think of your main task as the overall project wrapper.

  • Click the New Task button located in the top left corner of your dashboard.
  • Give it a high-level name (e.g., "Website Redesign for Acme Corp").

2. Add your actionable Subtasks

Now, let's break that project down into actual work.

  • Click on your new task from the list to open the Task Details view.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the details window and click the New Subtask button.
  • Add your individual to-do items here. (Note: Chik currently uses a clean List view to keep things fast, though Kanban boards are on our roadmap!)

3. Share it with your Client (Partner)

If you want your client to see this project in their Showcase Mode, it takes one click. Inside the Task Details view, simply select your client from the Assignment dropdown.

Pro Tip: Turn on Notifications

Working with a team member or client and want to know when they leave a comment or upload a file? Open the task, click the settings dropdown in the top right corner, and turn on notifications for that specific task so you never miss an update.
